Pixie Mamas Rescue does not have a shelter or kennel facility. All dogs live in foster homes - they are part of our families!  We have no time limit on how long the dogs stay in foster care - as long as it takes to find a home that suits them. Our foster homes work with the animal on basic manners, crate- and house-training, and correcting any behavioral issues that an animal may have.

  We require an adoption application, a veterinary  reference, and a home visit. The decision to place a dog in a home rests with the Pixie Mamas Board.  We only have the best interests of the animal at heart and we know best that animal's needs and temperament.   

   Any other pets that you have must be fully vetted, this includes that they be spayed/neutered.  No exceptions will be made to this rule, so please do not apply if your pets are not spayed/neutered. This also includes cats! 

 We do not adopt dogs out as gifts. The person the dog is going to live with needs to be the applicant.   But you can always contribute to the adoption fee of the dog! 

  Pixie Mamas is the Buffalo NY area. We do adopt to other areas within a reasonable distance but there is a process in adopting and distance adds time and money to the process.  You also must be willing to drive to pick up the dog if you are distant. We do not ship dogs.   

   Sorry - we do not adopt to anyone under the age of 25 or students.  Your life is just too hectic and unpredictable for a dog right now.       

We are looking for homes where someone is there often to help with house training, maintaining good potty habits, etc.   Puppies and young dogs will only be adopted out to homes where they can be let out to relieve themselves every 2 to 3 hours. Young dogs should not be crated for more than a few hours at a time (except for overnight housing).

Single family homes and Fully Fenced yards go to the top of the list. 

There is no guarantee that because you apply for the dog that you are going to adopt the dog. We seriously consider all applications but if we should suggest another dog for your home, it is because we truly know these dogs and possibly there is another dog that is a better fit. We strive for as close to the perfect match as possible.  Proper placement takes into consideration many things, including size, male/female, activity level, children and ages of the children, fencing or lack of, amont of time dog will spend home alone, and many other considerations. There is much more to all dogs than what they look like.

We cannot not answer emails requesting more information or pictures for the dogs.  Everything we know is in the profile and unless you have a specific question, we do not know what other information you want.  As we discover more about the dog, we update the profile.  As for pictures - we post updates when we get them and when we have time! 

We get a lot of interest in puppies.  There are many applications and only so many puppies.  Please consider one of our other wonderful, adoptable dogs on our site.

We cannot "hold" a dog for you.  If you are considering adopting a dog but are going on vacation in the near future, please WAIT until you return to adopt. 

  We require a non-refundable adoption donation.  Adoption fees are based on adoptabilty. Our fees start at $350 for adult dogs.  "Highly Adoptables" (puppies/purebreds,etc.) will be more.  We sometimes reduce the fee for senior and special-needs dogs for the right adopters. All the animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm-tested (when relevant), wormed, flea-treated, and most all are microchipped.

Pixie Mamas Rescue has the right to either deny or approve your application without explanation.

Please be advised that we are all volunteers dealing with not only volunteering and fostering but with our own personal homes and lives. Therefore it is not always possible to contact every applicant.
