Abby

Abby is an 8 year old female Scottie.  She came to Pixie Mamas in August via a local shelter.  Her owner had dementia and had let Abby suffer with flea and food allergies for a very long time.  At the time of her surrender, she was in bad shape and if not taken in by rescue would have been surely euthanized.  Abby was nearly hairless and her skin was swollen and cracked.  We immediately put her on a grain free diet and gave her supplements.  We got her into the vet and had her thoroughly evaluated.  The road was long and required a lot of patience but every day saw an improvement in her condition.  Our vet did a multitude of tests and blood work and everything came back clean!   Although her skin is not perfect and there may always be spots where it will not grow back, she was cleared for adoption from our vet!  She is as healthy as can be with no signs of Crones, thyroid or any other condition.

Abby has a wonderful personality.  Throughout her ordeal she has been affectionate and sweet.  I think she knew what could have happened to her if she had not become a pixie!  Abby is leash trained and crate trained.  She is also housetrained (but there could be accidents in a new situation).  She loves car rides and gets very excited when she knows she is going somewhere!  Abby is good with people, very friendly!  She is ok with other dogs but it would best if they were her size or larger  since she can pick on the little ones at times.  Abby has lived with cats and is fine with them although she does show interest. It is the nature of her breed to chase small animals so please keep that in mind if you are interested in adopting Abby and you have other dogs/cats in the house.   Abby knows basic commands too (sit, crate, down and stay).  She would make a wonderful companion for someone who would like a plug in dog!

Abby's new home needs to keep her on a grain free diet at all times (including treats!) Any grain in her system will get her to scratch again and lose her coat.  It is like having a child with a peanut allergy - you wouldn't give them peanut butter would you?  The cost of the food is equal to a higher quality dog food and can be found at most pet stores.  Abby will also need to be kept on flea meds year round.

Abby is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, tested neg for heartworm, on flea medication and wormed.  When adopted, she will come with a sample of dog food and a 1 month supply of flea medication.  Her adoption fee is $250.  If you have any questions or would like to meet Abby, please contact her foster mom at barb@pixiemamasrescue.com
