Kevin

Kevin is a Basset hound mix, almost 4yrs old and 38lbs. He is a wannabe lapdog. He is so loving and well behaved. Due to unforeseen circumstances, (no fault of Kevin’s) his owner had to give him up after two years so he is back at Pixie Mamas Rescue. You can tell he was much loved and taken very good care of.
Kevin is a very handsome dog! Gorgeous markings make him look like he’s wearing a tux and his swagger is adorable. He struts around with pride. He got shortchanged on the Bassett ears, but his fit him perfectly.
Kevin is fully house trained. He loves other dogs and enjoys playtime. You can take food, treats and toys away with no issues. He is easygoing and listens well. He will sit and stay, give you his paw, and wait till you give him permission to eat. He likes bath time and brushing and enjoys his nightly massages! He is good in the car. He is good on a leash, but will occasionally pull, so training is ongoing. He loves to cuddle up on the couch and snuggle in at night with you.
The only thing he needs work on is when startled, he may quickly turn and warn you, but immediately recovers. This only happened when he first came into our home and may have been due to being afraid, (every dog needs time to adjust to new surroundings) however, for this reason, no homes with young children. That being said, he has been very relaxed around my young grandchildren and has played with them and given them a lot of love and kisses with no signs of any aggression or fearfulness.
Kevin is pretty low key but will need daily walks and playtime. A fenced yard would be nice but not required. He would be a good fit in a home with or without another dog. He has not been crate trained, but has been left home alone with no issues. He is a wonderful companion and just wants to be loved.

Kevin is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and tested neg. for heartworm. Kevin was successfully treated for heartworm two years ago, so he will have to be on heartworm prevention for the rest of his life. The cost of heartworm preventive is inexpensive, approximately $70 a year.
