This adorable little girl is Miss Sassie!  She is about 9 months old and the cutest scruffy wire hair terrier.  Even though just a baby, Sassie has had quite the life already.  But she is finally in a loving secure foster home that will help guide her to her forever home.

Sassie was surrendered to a shelter for resource guarding.  Her previous owners opted to try to medicate a puppy with Prozac instead of training her.  Since resource guarding is a behavior problem the medication obviously did not work and she has since been weaned off safely with the help of our vet.  Since being in rescue she has shown some improvement in her behaviors but she does indeed guard her things.  She guards her crate, her food and her toys.  She does this with people as well as other animals.  We will be requiring a dog savvy, breed experienced, adult only owner who understands the breed / behavior and is willing to put time into training her.  Sassie is extremely loving when she is not guarding.  She is very smart and knows basic commands.  She is very submissive and insecure and needs an alpha owner who will not let her take over the home. She will need a couple weeks to really trust her new person but once she does she will lay on her back for belly rubs, sleep with you and be your best friend.  Sassie is a typical high energy puppy and loves to play with other dogs.  A good match for Sassie would be another dog who loves to play (wrestle) but doesn’t care to much about toys as that is where the problems begin.  Sassie is learning how to walk on a leash but we truly believe this has been a negative experience for her so she is still learning, same as the car.  Sassie is crate trained but again we believe the crate was used for punishment so we are working very hard to change this for her.  She is not fully housebroken and due to the leash being such an issue we are requiring a fenced in yard for her (no electric fence, no exceptions). In true terrier fashion Sassie loves to bark so an apartment may not be the best choice.   Sassie's behaviors will not be fixed overnight and because of that we have decided to at least start looking for her forever home in hopes we find the perfect fit.  We realize due to her issues she will be a tough placement but that is okay as Sassie is out of the shelter, safe and loved in her foster home for however long that may take.  If you have terrier experience and or experience with resource guarding and you fit the requirements for adoption, please apply.
