Learn more about the Chihuahua. Say hello to Gabriel! This adorable little guy is around 7 to 8 years old and weighs just 7 pounds. Gabriel came to us from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, where he wasn't feeling his best in the kennel and wasn't showing off his wonderful personality. Luckily, his foster mom met him a couple of times and, being a chihuahua lover herself, she recognized his true charm. She knew that if she didn’t bring him home, he might not have had a happy ending. Gabriel is now ready for a loving forever home where he can truly shine! At first glance, you might think Gabriel has a "resting Chihuahua face" that makes him look a bit grumpy, but don’t let that fool you! He’s a sweet boy with some adorable quirks. When he’s not happy, he’ll let you know with a little growl, especially if you disturb him in his crate or while he’s all snuggled up under his blanket. His foster mom discovered that if you get down to his level, speak softly, and invite him over, he warms right up! Gabriel enjoys the company of other small dogs, particularly female companions, but he’s not too fond of puppies and tends to chase them away from his space. He’s got a big appetite for treats and is quite motivated by food! He’s been working on his housetraining and is making progress, though he still has the occasional accident. He might need a little extra encouragement to go outside when it gets chilly, but once he’s out there, he knows what to do! He walks nicely on a leash, but prefers the cozy, fully fenced yard in his foster home. He even gets rewarded with treats when he comes back inside! While Gabriel isn’t super interested in toys, he does enjoy a good chew. He turns into a little cuddle bug when it’s time to relax, often curling up in his foster mom’s office, just waiting for a chance to snuggle! One important thing to keep in mind—Gabriel has a big bark, so he may not be the best fit for an apartment. We also think he’d thrive in a kid-free home. If kids do come to visit, it’s best to let him chill in another room so he feels comfortable. Gabriel is looking for a special someone who understands that he’ll need a little time to adjust and build trust. If you’re a quirky dog lover looking to make a new furry friend, Gabriel can’t wait to meet you! Gabriel is now neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $375
