Learn more about the Poodle (Standard).

Let me tell you about Maxine. This girl is a ball of energy and love wrapped into one 35 pound poodle. Maxine is a local owner surrender that was no longer able to care for her. At 18 months old, Maxine has all the characteristics of a Standard Poodle. Any family that adopts her will need to be prepared to be loved unconditionally and expect lots and lots of kisses.

Maxine bonds to her person very quickly. Her person is the center of her world. There is no escaping the love that Maxine has for them. Anywhere you go, Maxine is right behind you. True to her breed, Maxine is extremely smart and trainable. She would do best in a home with another young playful dog, and a home that offers her a great deal of mental stimulation. Maxine's "poodle poke" with her nose is strong. She should not go to a home with small senior dogs. She has been known to poke them a little too hard when she is trying to play. She is eager to learn new things and picks up on them quickly. Maxine is not a couch potato. At least not until around 8pm. That is when she crashes on the couch and settles in to watch TV.

Maxine is very food motivated. Speaking of food, Maxine is a counter surfer. With her long lean legs, and nose, she can reach things far back on the counter with no problem. Anything that she steals is fair game to chew or eat. When you are not home, Maxine should always be crated, otherwise when you come home, you may no longer have a few plates, cups, or even medicine bottles. Don't worry though, Maxine is fully crate trained and will relax all day while you are away. Once you are home though, watch out, she has a ton of energy to burn off. Watching her run around the backyard is amazing. The way she leaps and bounces it looks like a horse having the time of her life. She will run laps around the yard or play chase around the trees. Just a very happy girl and she is excited to show how wonderful life truly is.  Maxine is working on leash walking, she does require a fenced-in yard at this time. No electric fences.  Maxine is still working on her house training. It is going extremely well too!  Keep in mind, accidents will happen initially, but Maxine should learn your routine quickly helping to reduce accidents.

Being a poodle, Maxine will need regular grooming. She will need frequent bathing, brushing, and trimming. Make sure you have the time, patience, and budget for her care. Maxine is hesitant around new people but she quickly warms up to strangers. She is very social once she sees that new people are not meant to hurt her. Maxine has been around both men and women of various ages. She does tend to jump when she is excited to see her family, so watch the little ones when they come to visit. Maxine is a great travel buddy too! When you take her places to meet all the people and see all he sites, Maxine will sit nicely in the back seat until you get to where you are going.
