Everyone’s favorite guy is ready for adoption. Introducing Barney. Barney was found as a stray in Rochester shortly before Christmas. When he was brought into the shelter, this poor guy was severely matted all over his body. In fact, he was limping because and holding up his one leg because the matted fur formed a tourniquet around his leg. This caused his toes to be swollen and ulceration to form where the fur had grown.

On top of that, Barney also had some eye issues going on that the shelter was not sure they could care for. So after giving Barney a medical exam and cleaned him all up, we were contacted. One look at his scruffy face and how could we not help this handsome man? Needless to say, Barney joined Pixie Mamas Rescue shortly before Christmas. The good news is, that after our vet checked out his eye, they felt it is a cataract. No surgery is required, no medication, and he has been cleared for adoption! Now his new life begins.

Barney is an amazing little man. He loves to lay around on the couch all day. He’s an Avery quiet little guy. He follows his foster mom all around the house. He’s a sneaky boy. You won’t even know he’s there. Turn around and sure enough, Barney is there. At bedtime, Barney is up on the bed, ready to sleep all night right next to you. All he wants is love. Barney is nervous around men at first, but he does warm up to them. He just needs someone who will be kind and patient while he adapts.

Barney appears to be housebroken, but of course, we tell people to always expect accidents as a new family member learns the routine. Barney enjoys going for walks, and car rides. He’s the perfect buddy for a road trip. Barney will sit in his seat, look out the window and watch the world as you drive along. Now and then we would like you to pet or acknowledge that he’s there, but then Barney goes back to the window. He’s a nice mellow man.

Now don’t get us wrong, Barney does have times when he likes to run and play and wrestle with the other dogs in his foster home. It is short-lived, maybe 30 minutes, then he’s done. Then he’s back at your feet. Looking for your love and approval. Barney gets along with other dogs but he is also a protector and referee.  If the other dogs start playing to rough, Barney steps in barking telling them to stop. He is the boss and in charge of the others.
