Learn more about the Shiba Inu.

Kona (FKA as Coco) is a beauty of a dog!  This little Shiba was an owner surrender to our local shelter and they know that Pixie Mamas has a long standing love of  Shiba Inus so when they asked, we ran to get her asap!  Kona is about 1.5 years old and weighs only 15 pounds.

Kona is typical of the Shiba breed - please do some research if you do not have any knowledge or experience with the breed.  Shibas are not for everyone and we do not want her bounced around.  Kona is super smart and has lots of energy!  She is a champion runner in the yard and loves to be outside regardless if she is playing or soaking up the last of the warm fall days.  Coming inside is on her terms right now and her foster mom is working with her on this.  Shibas are very stubborn!  It's their "never give up, never surrender' attitude that makes them a challenge!  Shiba owners must be patient and have a sense of humor.  Kona is leash trained and likes to go for walks.  She is also wonderfully crate trained.  She loves to play with other dogs and she is very social with them.  She will do anything to try to entice them to run with her.  Because her play can be rough, we think a dog her size or bigger is best suited for Kona.  Kids will be fine but they should be at least 12+.  Shibas tend to be escape artists and getting them back is not easy so we would prefer a fully fenced yard for Kona.  Kona is a good watchdog and lets us know when something is going on that shouldn't be but quickly quiets down when told to.  She knows sit, down and we are working on name recall and other basic commands.  Kona is smart but she is still a puppy so training must continue in her new home.  We find she is food motivated and that is helping.  Shibas are typically clean dogs that are easily housetrained.  She has had a few accidents in her foster home but mainly does very well, especially when crated.  Please expect some adjustment time for her though.

Kona is now spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $500 - please apply online if you think you are a match for our beautiful girl!
