Learn more about the Chihuahua. Ava Layne is a 1-2 year old chihuahua mix! She came in with a few others from Texas. The group was found on the side of the road dirty, hungry and full of fleas. A Good Samaritan took them in and kept them safe until a rescue was found. Ava was absolutely terrified of people. She would sit in the corner and just watch everything you did hoping you wouldn’t make eye contact with her. They did not appear to live inside a home before as everything was very foreign to them. They have been in a foster home for months now and Ava has made lots of progress. She is still extremely shy around people and does not like to be cuddled or held but she will allow you to pick her up and love on her for short periods of time. We think once Ava is separated from the group and finds a home of her own that she will start to open up more and more. This will be a work in progress so please know she will require lots of time, patience and love from her new family and that she may never be a completely normal or snuggly dog. The group sleeps in a puppy pen and Ava is pad trained but she loves to go outside and she she does know exactly what to do out there. Again this may take some time for her to feel safe in your yard but it will happen. She loves the yard in her foster home and her favorite thing to do is chase the chickens. She is definitely happiest outside. She is curious and adventurous and feels much more comfortable running in the yard. Its the only time Ava is not worried or stressed and actually acts like a happy dog. For this reason we are asking for a fenced in yard for her. It doesn’t have to be big but she needs an area she can relax and be herself. Ava is great with dogs of all sizes. She is playful and sweet to them. She runs with the shepherd in her foster home and they wrestle and play with no problem. She does not bother the cat except maybe a bark here and there but otherwise they basically ignore each other. She is quiet in the car. She is not leash trained. She has been around an 8 year old child and doesn’t approach but allows her to sit in the pen and pet her without any issues. Overall Ava is a work in progress. We see potential for her to be a fun little dog. She is curious and adventurous and we feel she will just thrive with the right family to love her! If you think that’s with you please apply! Ava is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $400
