Learn more about the Bull Terrier.

Luna (formerly Mackenzie) is a beautiful bull terrier mix, about 20lbs, and 11months old. She was adopted out as a young puppy but became ill in her adoptive home and was returned to rescue for treatment. She has been seen by our vet and through testing, it has been determined that Luna has a liver shunt. She was most likely born with it. Although sad for Luna the vet is confident that she can live a fairly normal life with a very strict diet, medication and exercise. Luna will require a dedicated family who has the time, patience and financial means to take over her care. She needs to go to the bathroom frequently throughout the day, so a fenced-in yard is required. Although doing well on housebreaking she will go inside if she doesn’t make it out in time, this is just part of her condition and to be expected. However, she rarely needs to go out at night so that is a bonus! She can get very cold, so she needs to have a blanket to get under during the day. After she eats she likes to snuggle in with you, have her belly rubbed and sleep. At night she will need to sleep under the covers with you to keep warm, well worth it because her cute little snores will gently lull you to sleep. Luna can become overly playful with other dogs. She can be very rough, pushy and dominant in play which can also be attributed to her breed. Because of this, we are saying that she is dog selective and If placed with another dog it will be imperative that it be the perfect match for them. She is currently with a female shepherd mix and they play all the time, however, the shepherd lets her know when she’s gone too far and Luna listens. We realize every dog is not as tolerant. Due to her medical condition, it can also affect her personality at times. She can become dazed, a little disoriented and physically unstable, more reasons why she should never be left alone for long periods of time. All that said, Luna really is adorable, her coat is like velvet and she is truly a happy, playful, very loving little girl. She will make you laugh with her cuteness! She will become your best buddy and follow you everywhere. She knows how to sit and give paw. She will wait to be told to eat. Loves to take warm baths. Easy to clip her nails. Loves to be brushed. Easy to walk. Great in the car. Toys and bones can be taken away from her but she can get possessive around her food bowl (she is hungry all the time). She has been around children and absolutely loves them, although sometimes gets a little too happily exited, so she needs a little work on personal space with kids. Older kids would be preferred due to her food guarding and overzealous personality. Although Luna requires a special Home we know it is out there somewhere. We want nothing more than to see Luna happy and with a family who understands her needs and is able to provide her with the best, safest, most loving home. If you are interested, please research liver shunts so you know what to expect medically and we can talk further about her dietary needs. The medication and the costs involved etc.

Luna is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and tested neg for heartworm. Luna's medicine is about $30/month. Her adoption fee is $275
