Introducing Mr. Chestnut! Look at that face, those ears, could this handsome man be any cuter?! His foster mama doesn’t think so. Such a sweet and happy boy. Very loyal to his people. Chestnut loves to be wherever they are. Mr. Chestnut was another local dog that needed help. He had some issues when he came in, but his foster family has been working hard to help him through those. First off was his weight. He was known as the Chunky Chi. Chestnut was initially surrendered, at over 18 pounds, when his previous owners threatened to take him out back and take care of him “Old Yeller” style. Why do you ask? Well, see Chestnut does not like to be picked up. When they would pick him up, he would bite. Sadly one of his previous owners had dementia. We can only imagine that she would forget and then he would bite her. But how could she not try to hold him, he’s a very handsome lad. He also makes you think he wants you to pick him up since he loves to snuggle. Mr. Chestnut does have some medical issues that his adopter should be aware of. He did have bladder stones and many skin tags. Both of those concerns have been removed. It is recommended that Chestnut stay on a special diet to prevent the stones from returning. He also has random seizures. They are not frequent enough for medication, but they should remain monitored. At the current time, Chestnut has had 3 seizures in the past 7 months. Because Chestnut does have a history of biting, we will not place him in a home with small children.

Now we know that is a lot to understand about Chestnut, but he has some amazing qualities as well. Chestnut absolutely loves to be loved. His biggest issue is being picked up.  He will allow someone to pick him up while on a leash. We are hoping with continued positive reinforcement, he will eventually learn that being picked up is not scary. He is probably one of the most loyal dogs his foster family has ever seen. He never leaves their side. He is excellent on a leash. Now that Chestnut has lost so much weight, he loves to go for walks. He will walk for as long as you let him. Chestnut also gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home. He enjoys running and playing in his fenced yard. When Chestnut is done, he will lay on the back deck, sunning himself for hours. Chestnut is housebroken as well, but we always tell people to expect accidents at first, until he learns your routine. Chestnut is an excellent road trip companion. He will sit in the passenger seat and not make a sound the entire ride. If you are watching TV or working on a computer at home, Chestnut will lay at your feet or on the couch next to you the entire time. Once you get up to make dinner, Chestnut will be right at your heels. He is the first to climb Into bed at night. He prefers to sleep on the pillow next to his foster mom. If you think that you can give Chestnut a home where he can continue to thrive, make sure you apply today.

Chestnut is neutereed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  His adoption fee is $200
